Support Our Fresh Produce Monthly Food Distribution Events

Effective February 1, 2026, the Maryland Food Bank (MFB) will be charging event fees for each Pantry on the Go (POTG) event. POTG Event Fees will be a flat fee of $500 per event (at one event per month, this is a maximum cost of $6,000 per year). The average POTG event costs MFB $4,500*. This includes the cost of the food itself and the cost of distribution (including transportation, gas, warehouse space, staffing, etc.). This $500 event fee is the first step in offsetting this cost and moving towards a more sustainable way of food distribution. HARBEL Community Organization would like to continue the monthly fresh produce distribution for the community, however in order to do so, we will need the help and generosity of donors. Our monthly food distribution is also an opportunity for the community to get together and volunteer to provide a service to one another. Our volunteer opportunities are for students needing service learning hours, retirees, community business owners, etc. At HARBEL, we are a multipurpose organization servicing a multinational community.

The HeartSmiles VR Lab is more than just a space—it’s a launchpad for youth to explore careers, spark creativity, and gain the future-ready skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Through immersive, hands-on virtual reality experiences, young people will have the opportunity to learn by doing—stepping into environments that textbooks alone can’t provide. In this innovative learning lab, youth can: - Practice public speaking in simulated boardrooms, classrooms, and large audiences—building confidence and communication skills in a low-stakes, repeatable setting. - Explore career paths by virtually shadowing professionals in fields like healthcare, engineering, design, architecture, and skilled trades. - Collaborate on creative projects like building virtual art installations or coding their own mini-VR games—learning teamwork, design thinking, and tech fluency. - Train for real-world scenarios like conflict resolution, customer service, or interviews—enhancing social-emotional skills and workforce readiness. - Visit the world—from walking through a civil rights museum to touring a NASA space station or seeing marine biology up close—making learning more engaging and culturally rich. By engaging with VR, our youth gain not just tech exposure, but critical 21st-century skills: adaptability, digital literacy, innovation, and leadership.
